The business behind the van

About Symes SA Solar Proofing & Pest Solutions

Symes SA is a family owned, ABN registered pest and wildlife business run by Edward Symes, a licensed technician with more than ten years in the trade. He works across all of Adelaide from the southern suburbs, does every job himself from inspection to invoice, and uses the products the trade uses rather than the ones the public can buy.

Who runs the business

Who runs Symes SA?

Edward Symes runs it, and he is the technician. There is no office crew quoting jobs they will never see and no subcontractor turning up in a different van. Edward answers the phone, inspects the roof, does the treatment or the install, writes the invoice and comes back if the warranty is called on.

He started the business after a decade in the trade watching Adelaide homeowners pay twice: once for a cheap job with watered-down product, and again when the real problem came back. Birds nesting under panels that had been "deterred" with spikes. Possums back in the ceiling because nobody sealed the hole. Cockroaches that had shrugged off three cans of supermarket spray.

The fix he settled on is not complicated. Use the products that work, hold the licence that lets you buy them, do the whole job including the part nobody sees, and put the warranty in writing on a proper invoice. Everything on this site follows from those four decisions, and you can see how they play out in the pest control, possum removal and solar and roof proofing services.

What licences, registration and insurance do we hold?

Symes SA is an ABN registered South Australian business. Edward holds the SA certified licence for each type of work he does, covering pest management and possum handling, and public liability insurance is in place on every job. Those three things are what a property manager or insurer will want to see.

Licensing in South Australia is not optional for this work. Pest control chemicals at trade strength can only be bought and applied by a licensed technician, and possums can only be trapped or handled under a wildlife permit. An operator without both cannot legally do the job properly, whatever the price. Copies of the relevant documents are available on request when you book.

  • SA certified licenceHeld for pest management and wildlife work. Every job is done by the person who holds it.
  • ABN registeredA registered Australian business, which is what makes the certified taxable invoice possible.
  • Public liability insuredCover in place on every visit, so your property is protected while the work is done.
Products

Why do we only use trade-only products?

Because they are the ones that work. Trade products go to licensed operators only, at full strength, made to stay active for months and applied with gear the public cannot buy. Retail versions are watered down for untrained use and fade within days, which is why the pests return and the can gets bought again.

Buying direct from the supplier also means Edward knows exactly what is going on your walls, in your roof and under your panels, and can tell you the re-entry time and the safety data before he starts. The same principle applies to the possum hardware and the solar mesh: it is the professional grade, not the hardware store version.

Please do not waste your money on anything less than the best. These are the products that work, and I am the professional who knows how to use them.

The invoice

What does a certified taxable invoice mean for you?

It means the job is on the record. Because Symes SA is ABN registered, every invoice carries the GST, lists each item of work and where it was done, records any variation agreed on the day, and spells out the warranty. If you need to claim, prove a treatment to a property manager or sell the house, this is the document that does it.

One technician

How do we work, one technician from start to finish?

You deal with Edward from the first call to the final invoice. He books the visit to suit you, six days a week with flexible hours, inspects before he quotes, does the work himself, and is the person who returns if anything needs a second look. That continuity is the reason the warranty means something.

  • You call or email

Edward picks up. Describe the suburb and the problem, and he tells you which service it is and when he can come.

  • He inspects and quotes

Roof, perimeter and affected rooms are checked before a figure is given. No obligation, no pressure.

  • He does the work

Treatment, removal or install, using trade products and the right hardware, with the detail nobody else does.

  • He stands behind it

Certified invoice on completion, warranty written on it, and the same person on the end of the phone afterwards.

About the business

What do people ask about Symes SA?

Are you insured?

Yes. Symes SA carries public liability insurance, and it is in place on every job whether that is a pest treatment inside the house, possum work on the roof or a solar mesh install on a two-storey home. If you need a copy of the certificate for a strata manager or a landlord, ask when you book and it comes with the quote.

What licence do you hold?

Edward holds the South Australian certified licence required for the work he performs. For pest control that is the state pest management licence, which is what allows him to buy and apply trade-strength products. For possum work it is the wildlife permit covering trapping and handling of protected native animals.

How long have you been operating?

Edward has more than ten years in the trade across pest control, wildlife work and solar proofing, and Symes SA is the business he built on that experience. It is family owned and operated, based in Adelaide's southern suburbs, and services the whole metropolitan area with one technician doing every job.
