Possum Removal in Grange
Possum removal Grange homes call for is a fixings problem. Beside the beach, the screws and nails holding iron roofs, gutters and barge flashings rust through in a fraction of the time they would inland, and each failed fixing lets a sheet edge lift until a brushtail can get under it. Symes SA finds the lifted edge, removes the possum under licence and refixes the roof with hardware that will not rust out again.

What possum problems are specific to Grange?
Corrosion does the possum's work. A roof screw on a Grange cottage sits in salt spray every onshore day, and when its head rusts away the sheet it held springs up a few millimetres. A gutter bracket goes, a barge loosens, and a nothing gap becomes a doorway. The possums in the golf course trees just walk the fence line and push.
It means a Grange entry is often not a broken roof at all: the iron is sound, the fixings are not. Wedging the gap shut with the old screws in place fails within a season, which is why the hardware matters as much as the mesh.
What roofs are on Grange homes?
Two very different stocks: the original beach cottages and interwar homes near the jetty and along Military Road, with iron roofs and timber barges. And the two-storey infill that has replaced many of them, with tight roofs whose weak points are the parapet junctions, and whose fixings are now rusting too.
Caught at the sheet edge
Where do possums get into a Grange roof?
Along the edges where fixings have failed. Edward presses each sheet edge and barge from the roof, then confirms the live gap from the ceiling side.
- Lifted sheet edgeIron sprung at eave or ridge where screw heads have rusted off.
- Barge flashingLoose along the gable where old nails have let go.
- Gutter lineGutter dropped at a failed bracket, opening the eave behind it.
- Infill parapetOn the townhouses, the capping where the roof meets a parapet wall.
How do we remove a possum in Grange?
A lifted sheet edge is a long gap, not a hole, so a one-way door rarely fits. The cage goes on the possum's track inside the roof, or outside at the edge it uses, checked at dawn, and the animal is set free on your block at dusk, as the licence sets out. On a two-storey infill townhouse with no cavity access it goes at the parapet from the roof.
Two-storey homes mean harness work, and a wet, windy iron roof is rescheduled rather than rushed.
Is the Grange roof refixed on the same visit?
Yes. The sprung sheet is screwed back down with coated fixings suited to the coast, the barge refixed, and mesh closes the eave where the gutter dropped, before the possum comes back from the dunes. The rusted fasteners come out; they are the cause.
A beachside roof that has lost one line of fixings has usually lost others, so the roof walk lists where else the edges are lifting and quotes them as roof possum proofing. On a Grange cottage that is largely a refixing job.
How quickly do we reach Grange?
Grange is a western beaches run, so the phone answer is a firm window, and a call before lunch is often attended that afternoon. Henley Beach, Tennyson, West Lakes and Semaphore are covered on the same run, and Woodville inland has its own page for its extension-junction roofs.
This is the Adelaide Grange, not Kembla or Smeaton Grange. Every other suburb is listed under service areas.
What does it cost in Grange?
The removal is one line, the refixing and sealing of the live edge another, and the rest of the roof's lifted edges a third, quoted after the roof walk. The Grange figure moves with the metres of edge to refix and whether the house is a cottage or a two-storey townhouse worked in a harness.
The itemising is explained under possum removal cost, and the licensed method is on the possum removal pillar.
Possum removal Grange: beachside questions
How quickly can you get to Grange?
On the western run with a firm window, since Grange is well across town. and wet, windy days on iron are rescheduled.
Do you refix the Grange roof on the same visit?
Yes. The sprung edge is screwed down with coated coastal fixings, the barge refixed and the eave meshed on the day, with the cage set until the possum is out. The other lifting edges found on the roof walk go on the proofing quote.
Is it legal to relocate the possum?
Not past your own boundary. South Australian rules require release near the capture point at dusk, and that is the limit of the Symes SA licence. The remainder is in our SA possum law guide, including why the refixed roof, not the release, does the real work.
What if it comes back?
Beside the sea another fixing will eventually fail, so a new edge can lift. Work that was sealed is warranted on the certified taxable invoice and refixed at no cost if it fails; a newly lifted edge is quoted, so refixing the whole roof first time is the better buy.
