What possum problems are specific to Brighton?
Brighton possums are roof possums. The suburb has few large reserves, so brushtails live in the Norfolk pines, the street trees and the old backyard figs, and they bed down in whichever roof is easiest to enter. On the coast that is nearly always a tile roof with capping that has lifted, because salt-laden wind breaks down ridge mortar faster here than anywhere inland.
The second Brighton pattern is corrosion. Galvanised flashing at chimneys, valleys and lean-to junctions rusts through within a few decades of sea air, and a rusted flashing edge lifts just enough for a possum to work a paw under.

How do we remove a possum in Brighton?
Inspection from the roof and the ceiling, then a one-way door fitted over the lifted cap or flashing edge the possum is using. It pushes out at dusk to feed in the pines and cannot get back in. Where the roof has more than one open cap, a cage is set in the roof space instead, checked at first light, and the animal is let go on your property at dusk.
Most Brighton roofs are single storey and ladder-reachable. A steep terracotta two-storey on the Esplanade needs a harness and more time, and you are told which before the quote.
Is the Brighton entry sealed the same day?
Yes. The cap the possum was using is re-bedded and pointed on the visit, or the rusted flashing is replaced, so the animal that leaves that night finds the door shut. On a coastal roof the replacement flashing and fixings are chosen to cope with salt, because a galvanised patch that rusts in five years is not a repair.

It can only come back through an open gap. The sealing and any proofing carry a warranty written on the certified taxable invoice, and if you hear the thumps again inside that period Edward returns to find out whether the repair failed or a new cap has lifted.
