One licensed technician, three trades

Our Pest Control Services in Adelaide

Symes SA offers three pest control services in Adelaide: general and targeted pest treatments for insects and rodents, humane and licensed possum removal, and solar panel bird proofing. Each is a different trade with its own hardware and method, but the same technician, Edward Symes, does all three, and every job leaves with a certified taxable invoice.

How the three fit together

What are the three services we offer, and how do they overlap?

Pest control deals with insects and rodents using trade-only chemistry. Possum removal is wildlife work done under SA law with doors, hatches and cage traps. Solar and roof proofing is a mesh installation that keeps birds out from under panels. They overlap because the animal that caused one problem usually leaves a second one behind.

A property rarely has just one issue. The pigeons under the panels shed mites into the roof. The possum that thumped across the ceiling used a gap that rats will find next winter. Because one technician handles all three trades, the second problem gets spotted during the first inspection instead of being left for another company to find months later.

  • Birds under panels, then bird mitesOnce the mesh goes on and the nests come out, the mites that lived in them look for a new host. A mite spray of the roof space is offered as an optional extra on every proofing job.
  • Possum out, then roof sealedA possum only gets in where the roof is open. Removal ends with the entry point secured, and the same gap analysis is what stops rodents using it afterwards.
  • Rodents baited, then entry closedBaiting alone is a subscription. Closing the way in is what makes a rodent job finish, and it is the same sealing work the possum trade relies on.

Pest control: what does the insect and rodent service cover?

The pest service treats spiders, ants, cockroaches, bed bugs, fleas, ticks, silverfish, carpet beetles, moths, flies, mites, mice and rats. A general treatment works through four zones of the house, and targeted jobs such as bed bugs or a rodent infestation get their own method, product and follow-up.

  • Internal spray, external perimeter spray, wall cavity treatment and roof dusting on every general job
  • Licence-only professional products at full strength, applied by the person who holds that licence
  • Rodent work is bait, trap and seal, because a bait station on its own never ends an infestation
  • Homes, rentals, offices and warehouses across Adelaide, including end of lease treatments

Targeted jobs are where species matters: a German cockroach kitchen is gel-baited, an ant colony is baited at the nest rather than sprayed on the trail, and a flea job is timed so the eggs hatching next week meet product that is still active.

Possum removal: how is it humane and licensed?

Possums are protected under South Australian wildlife law, so they cannot be harmed and cannot be driven far away. Symes SA holds the licence for this work and removes the animal with a one-way door, a hatch or a cage trap, releases it nearby as the law requires, and secures the entry point on the same day.

  • The one-way door is the usual choice: the possum leaves at night to feed and cannot get back in
  • A cage trap is used where a door will not work, and the possum is released close to where it was caught
  • A camera on the cage is available at no charge if you want to watch
  • Repairs focus on the main entry point identified on the day, which is what stops the next possum moving in

The signs are heavy footsteps across the ceiling after dark, scratching inside a wall, a strong smell near a vent, or fruit stripped from a tree by morning. Lighter, faster noise at all hours is more likely rodents, and the decision table below sorts one from the other.

Trapping or relocating a possum without a licence is an offence in South Australia. The state's guidance on living with possums explains why they must be released near the point of capture.

Solar and roof proofing: how does bird exclusion work?

Bird exclusion closes the gap between the panel edge and the roof so pigeons cannot get underneath to nest. Symes SA uses PVC coated steel wire mesh, cut to the perimeter of the array and held with fail-safe nylon clips or C-clips. Nothing is drilled, so the panel and roof warranties are untouched.

  • Old nests, feathers and droppings are cleared from under the panels first, removing the fire risk
  • The PVC coating stops rust, and the mesh carries a 25 year product warranty written on your invoice
  • C-clips suit newer panel frames; standard clips suit older systems, and both are non-invasive
  • Panel cleaning and a bird mite roof spray are optional extras, arranged before the booking so they are on the quote

Cleaning is done before or after the mesh goes on, never during, because a wet panel is a slip hazard on a pitched roof. If a gap is found after installation Edward returns to close it.

Match the symptom to the service

Which service do you need?

Match what you have seen or heard to the row below. Night-time thumping is possum work, daytime scratching or droppings is rodent work, cooing and mess around the roofline is bird proofing, and anything with six or eight legs is a pest treatment. If two rows match, book one visit and both are inspected together.

Same standard, every trade

What does every job include regardless of service?

Whichever service you book, the visit follows the same shape: an inspection before any price is given, a written quote with no obligation, trade-only materials applied by a licensed and insured technician, a certified taxable invoice on completion, and a warranty whose terms are written on that invoice.

  • 1

    Inspection before the quote

Edward looks at the roof, the perimeter and the affected rooms before he prices anything.

  • 2

    Quote with no obligation

You get a clear, honest figure for the whole job before work begins. No pressure to proceed on the day, and no variation added without being noted and priced.

  • 3

    Trade-only materials

Professional pest products, wildlife hardware and PVC coated mesh sourced direct from the supplier, which the general public cannot buy.

  • 4

    Licensed and insured

Edward carries the SA licence that each trade requires, and the business is covered by public liability insurance on every visit.

  • 5

    Certified taxable invoice

Issued on completion with GST shown and the work itemised. Landlords, property managers and insurers get the record they need without asking twice.

  • 6

    Warranty in writing

Warranty details are discussed on the day and set out on the invoice. For solar work the mesh adds a separate 25 year product warranty.

Before you book

Questions about our Adelaide pest control services

Can you handle more than one problem in a single visit?

Yes, and it is the normal case. A possum removal and a rodent treatment on the same roof, or a solar proofing job with a bird mite spray, are quoted together and done in one visit where the work allows. Tell us everything you have noticed when you book so the right hardware and product are on the van.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

Symes SA prices by the job rather than by the trip. Edward inspects the property, gives a quote with no obligation and no pressure, and you pay on completion of the work carried out. What you pay is the quoted figure plus any variation that was noted and priced with you on the day.

What does a certified taxable invoice show?

It shows the business name and ABN, the date and address of the job, each item of work carried out, the GST component, the total paid, and the warranty terms that apply. Property managers, insurers and conveyancers all ask for this document, and it is issued on every Symes SA job without exception.
